چکیده

Since image analysis techniques have come to maturity, mesh analysis has remained challenging requiring more and more efforts for elaborating an effective theoretical model. In this article, following algebraic mesh operators, we introduce algorithms that perform morphological transformations on unorganized point sets connected by their Delaunay triangulations. We show that these algorithms correspond to morphological operators like erosion, dilation or opening, acting as ‘‘shape filters” on meshes. More theoretically, a link is established between these algorithms and the formalisms of edge algebra and a-objects. Then, the mesh operators are defined in terms of complete lattices. These algorithms are applied to the problem – among others – of scene reconstruction by stereoscopy in which objects are represented by unstructured and noisy clouds of 3D points. Rapid prototyping should also benefit from these algorithms. 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Presenting a Morphological Based Approach for Filtering The Point Cloud to Extract the Digital Terrain Model

The Digital terrain model is an important geospatial product used as the basis of many practical projects related to geospatial information. Nowadays, a dense point cloud can be generated using the LiDAR data. Actually, the acquired point cloud of the LiDAR, presents a digital surface model that contains ground and non-ground objects. The purpose of this paper is to present a new approach of ex...

Filtering Airborne Lidar Data by an Improved Morphological Method Based on Multi-gradient Analysis

The technology of airborne Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) is capable of acquiring dense and accurate 3D geospatial data. Although many related efforts have been made by a lot of researchers in the last few years, LIDAR data filtering is still a challenging task, especially for area with high relief or hybrid geographic features. In order to address the bare-ground extraction from LIDAR poi...

Variable structuring element based fuzzy morphological operations for single viewpoint omnidirectional images

Morphological tools can provide transformations suitable for real projective images, but the camera and objects to be analyzed have to be positioned in such a manner that a regular mesh on the objects projects a regular mesh on the image. A morphological modification of the image is thus the projection of an equivalent operation on the object. Otherwise, due to perspective effects, a morphologi...

Geological noise removal in geophysical magnetic survey to detect unexploded ordnance based on image filtering

This paper describes the application of three straightforward image-based filtering methods to remove the geological noise effect which masks unexploded ordnances (UXOs) magnetic signals in geophysical surveys. Three image filters comprising of mean, median and Wiener are used to enhance the location of probable UXOs when they are embedded in a dominant background geological noise. The study ar...
